A rolling abacus rattle handmade from solid beech wood. Each rattle features twenty-five moving beads in a mix of beech wood and smooth silicone which can be completely customised to your colour choices.

Our abacus rattles are perfect for babies starting from 4-6 months of age who are discovering how to hold onto things and are just beginning to learn how to crawl. The wooden dowels allow babies to hold onto the toy as they explore the bead movement and colours, as well as the gentle sounds of the wooden beads which create a soft rattle when the toy is shaken.

Whilst our toy can be used as a rattle, it can be easily rolled along the floor to encourage baby to reach for it and is perfect for tummy time too! The beads can be moved smoothly from one side to the other, so as baby gets older you can use the toy as a mini-abacus learning to count from 1-5 and higher. It's a great tool for learning colours too, making it the perfect piece to grow with your child.

Our silicone beads are BPA, Phthalate and PVC free and are food-grade material which is commonly used for teething products and dummies.

Customising your toy

Each rolling abacus comes with fifteen silicone beads and ten wooden beads. We have twenty-nine silicone bead colours to choose from and four colours for the wooden beads. The two end pieces are finished in beech as standard.

You can choose from four different designs of bead layout from the following;

1. One colour (all silicone beads are the same colour on all five dowels)

2. Two colours (silicone beads interchange in a pattern (e.g. blush/white/blush) using two colours)

3. Three colours (silicone beads interchange in a pattern (e.g. sage/blush/buttermilk) using three colours)

4. Five colours (each dowel contains one different colour)

Choose your perfect combination from our colour chart in our images. Please note that whilst we try to depict in life colour, this is a guide and colours may appear different on screen. Whilst we have created our silicone beads with some of the same colour names as our most popular paint colours, our beads may not match painted toy colouring exactly and are just a guide.

For the wooden beads you can choose from beech, oak, cherry or walnut. All beads will be the same colour. We use a natural oil/wax blend to colour the wooden beads which is both food-safe and certified toy safe. This is the same finish we use on all of our wooden toys as it helps to protect the wood and help prevent it from drying out or cracking. Each wood piece is unique so wood grain may vary.

Colours photographed and visible in our main image are mushroom, sage and mustard with an oak bead. Second is our beech bead with sand, peach and blush silicone beads and third is beech with rust, orange, mustard, pink and blush beads.

Rattles measure approximately 17cm tall by 8cm in diameter.

Safety

Our rolling abacus rattles are to be used under adult supervision. Whilst our toy has been tested for use by children of all ages, the recommended age we give is between 4-6 months+ depending on your child's milestones. We would advise that the rolling element of the toy is first used as a floor time activity for babies unable to sit unaided and the rattling element is used when babies can hold onto the toy whilst sitting.

Beads measure approx 23mm. The silicone beads used are made from high quality food grade silicone, which is BPA, Phthalate and PVC free. Our beads have been independently lab tested to EN71-1:3 and the finished toy to EN71-1:2 as well as passing acoustics testing for the rattle sound. Wood elements are finished with a natural wax/oil blend which we hold EN71-3 certificates for. This toy is fully CE certified.

Each toy is assembled by hand and thoroughly inspected before leaving us. We use a non-toxic food safe glue to fix the dowels in place, which are deeply embedded in the wooden base.

Please inspect before each and every use and discard immediately if damaged.

Clean with a damp cloth and allow to air dry, do not submerge in water. Use a mild soap to clean beads before first use.
